Description

Social Innovation Weekend (SIW) is an intense three-day experience in which students, professionals and community members use entrepreneurial skills to tackle a significant social challenge. Participants are placed in teams and work alongside others as they create innovative solutions to a specific societal problem with the help of mentors. Social Innovation Weekend 2019 will focus on substance abuse and addiction recovery. The Institute for Entrepreneurship will collaborate with Miami Global Health and Social Work as well as a broad array of State, County, and Local organizations.

Serving students since 1992, the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship at Miami University is an internationally-recognized program that emphasizes strong academic research and immersive, real-world learning opportunities in the areas of startup and venture capital, social entrepreneurship, corporate venturing and technology commercialization, and creativity and innovation. Distinguishing features include a cross-disciplinary focus that engages more than 3,000 students annually from every major across campus, curricular and co-curricular programs that integrate effectively with organizations across the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and impressive numbers of opportunities to gain practical, hands-on experience.
